About the event

Saturday 7th September will be the 85th anniversary of ‘Black Saturday’, the first day of the Blitz. Chris Everett will mark the occasion by giving us a talk.

After the aerial bombing of London in the First World War it was recognised that ‘the bomber would always get through’. By 1936 it was clear a second European war was looming. How did the Port of London plan its defences? How would they cope? Could the Port and its workers endure a prolonged bombardment?

Meetings are held in the Jack Petchey Room on the lower ground floor of the museum. We gather from 4.30pm and talks start at 5pm. Please note that the museum closes to the general public at that time so if you arrive after then please enter by the rear security/staff door in Hertsmere Road. Talk

Entry to our talks is free to paid-up members of the T&DHG.…
